Basic Obedience 3 Day Course

 Basic Obedience Training – 3-Day Intensive at The NW Dog Location: 18954 Front Street NE Suite 102, Poulsbo, WA 98370 Time: 9:30 AM–10:30 AM; Monday-Wednesday

This immersive training course is designed to build lasting obedience and social confidence for dogs through focused sessions combining cue development, leash technique, and behavior shaping. Each day builds progressively to reinforce commands and navigate real-world challenges.

Program Overview

Day 1: Core Foundations & Engagement

  • Teach name recognition and “sit” using leash pressure and food lure
  • Shape duration with the 3 D’s: Distance, Duration, Distraction
  • Practice visual focus, block unwanted greetings, and redirect calmly during pass-bys

Day 2: Down, Implied Stay & Social Control

  • Introduce “down” from sit with tactile guidance
  • Build implied “stay” using hand signals and incremental distance
  • Increase calm social exposure using leash redirection techniques

Day 3: Cue Reinforcement & Confidence Building

  • Reinforce “sit,” “down,” and “stay” under mild distractions
  • Introduce threshold training with release cues at doorways
  • Walk through outdoor settings to strengthen social confidence

Homework & At-Home Practice

Each day includes practical take-home exercises to build consistency and generalize behaviors in familiar environments. Owners are encouraged to track progress and celebrate wins.

Program Overview:   This intensive six-day training course is designed to develop responsive, well-mannered behavior through structured techniques that support clear communication, impulse control, and confidence in both the dog and handler. The curriculum balances foundational obedience, leash management, spatial awareness, and real-world challenges—all with a practical, supportive approach. Whether you're working with a young dog just starting out or an older pet needing refinements, the program equips you with sustainable tools for long-term success. Sessions include active coaching, hands-on exercises, and tailored feedback to strengthen your dog's understanding and reliability in everyday settings.

Daily Breakdown (Simplified)

  • Day 1: Introduction to training philosophy, routines, and name response
  • Day 2: Teaching basic hand signals and verbal cue timing
  • Day 3: Body pressure use, spatial boundaries, and threshold respect
  • Day 4: Loose leash walking and structured movement techniques
